51st Anniversary Celebration

As the liaison of the 4th Batch OSs, Liang Chye made a proposal at the monthly gathering at the Ang Mo Kio ITE Central Canteen in January 2018 that we should find a date to celebrate our 51st Anniversary. The response was spontaneous as usual. He sent WhatsApp message and sms to announce the date, time and venue to communicate with the team members. Registration came in very smoothly because everyone knew that it was an opportunity for all teammates to meet and chat again. Fuzari Ross made an extra effort to link up with Haroon Arifin and Mohd Yaicop Gani. They are now added to our contact list. Happily, we are reconnected with them. On Saturday, 10 March 2018, One by one, we came to the Sukura Buffet (Halal) Restaurant near Yio Chu Kang MRT Station.

Names were called out loudly to express our heartwarming feeling for our friends. We exchanged greetings and chatted casually without a slightest hint to do so as we realized that it was our natural tendency to show our sincerity and openness towards our friends. There were cheerful laughter all around. Food was not our main attraction at all. It was really who we dined with. That explained what friendship was meant to all of us.

Alec Kuok from the then NYLTI was indeed a familiar name we recognized. His appearance among all of us made the occasion more honorable. We thanked Lee Yeow Nee for his initiative to invite Alec Kuok there and our Muslim friends for joining us. Thank you, Fuzari for the speech he made in Mandarin at the Restaurant to please all of us. We wish to extend our thankfulness to Liang Chye and his wife Teo Choon Kiang for initiating that meaningful effort to organize the Reunion.

More importantly, each of us made that effort to come and made the event a successful, meaningful and memorable one. Once again, we wish all of us good health, good luck and happiness in the years ahead.

Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, Bangkok

With an advanced online reservation made by Callie we travelled to the Siam Kempinski Hotel by the BTS via Siam Paragon Mall in the early evening on the 15th day of the Chinese New Year (元宵节). The moon was about to rise before the auspicious night reigned. The waitress ushered us into the Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin modern Thai fine dining Restaurant.

.

Interestingly, we walked in a single row passing a lotus pond and some Thai-style decorated dining tables before reaching a chamber at a split level. The timber structure was dimly lighted with warm lights to create a conducive ambience nicely suited our taste. Looking high up was a big round lamp hanging all the way from the high ceiling. It looked as if we were seated under the full moon of the auspicious evening of the Chinese Valentine Evening. Five high seatback chairs were spaciously arranged around the circular dining table well prepared with cutlery to welcome us. When comfortably seated, we appeared like a five cornered star under the full moon shining its blessing upon us. That was a special blessing to last for at least 365 days and beyond. Napkins and drinks were ready for each one of the Stars. The elegantly dressed waitress known as MOON stood next to Brennan and gave an introduction before we started our first dish of appetizer.

It was so amazed that we would be served dish by dish for the next four hours. Wine of the night was specially arranged by Callie to enable us to enliven our fine dining atmosphere with sparkling joy. Light music filled the air undisturbed for a non-stop conversation in an air-conditioned environment. With Callie, Brennan, Lay Cheng, Suzanna and CCP, we immersed ourselves in this Michelin Star Award winning dining pleasure.

For a private reason, We Khoon and Ser Hiang reserved that important evening for an exclusive luxury hours of dining privately being a Chap Goh Meh. The fun must be equally excited and good at the other venue we missed.

Amidst soft conversation, we enjoyed also a night of boisterous and joy-filled fun with great moments while dining at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin modelled on Copenhagen culinary efforts.

Every dish was a treat to the eyes. The dishes set to overwhelm patrons with amazing taste, texture and presentations.

Its culinary art and efforts preserved the authentic taste and flavors

The pre-dessert dish came disguised as a cotton candy ball exploding when syrup was poured over it revealing the mango inside. It was truly a rare BKK experience not to be missed after tasting the unique Michelin-worthy cuisine by the culinary engineers though dining was not cheap.

Some freshly prepared crunchy finger delicacies food could be picked up from tray hand delivered to the diners for quick bite.

The main dish came to us only after we had finished 18 small dishes of elaborate food. All in all, there were 21 dishes. LC was our effective Cash Comptroller. As usual, she foot the bill as it came. Seated next to her is a blessing as she is as rich as an ATM.

Desserts were served with the purpose to further motivate us to be more eager to come again.

We could not forget the great joy, fun and experience and had decided to keep it in our memory with this written article.

Here is wishing all our friends good health, good luck and happiness.
