Very interestingly, we
received phone calls from some former colleagues about their proposal to have a
gathering of the former colleagues. A date was fixed without any hitch. Nobody
objected to it. With some good ideas from amongst the spontaneous and enthusiastic
participants, a convenient halal restaurant was chosen. Some familiar names started
to appear on the WhatsApp Chat Group. They included Kam Lay, Vathi, Tham, Poon,
Edwin Pang and many others. They had quickly kept the ball rolling with little
ideas about what they would expect at the gathering. The first name of NACLI was
known as NYLTI in the 1960s. The name had changed many times over many years with
the need to keep abreast with the changing need of the society. It was
interesting to know that what they wanted was merely a chance to meet up with friends
they had missed over many years.
On the day of the
gathering 17 April 2019, everybody turned up punctually. They greeted one
another eagerly. A pre-arranged buffet dinner started while they chatted at the
two long dining tables specially reserved for them. They moved around and
changed seats to enable them to enjoy mixing around freely during the
get-together dinner. It was a heartwarming and happy occasion for all of them.
